Garrett GTP30 Gas Turbine
The smallest of the Garrett range the GTP30. Garrett is one of the largest APU manufacturers in the world, Garrett a part of the Allied Signal group produce a whole range of APUs the most common being the GTC85 air compressor and the GTP36 airborne APU.

The GTP30 is a compact easy to operate gas turbine, a number of different models were produced for ground and airborne applications. A particularly nice engine the GTP30 runs very cool off load, recording exhaust temperatures of less than 300 degrees!

The GTP30 began life in the 1960s and could be considered to be the main rival to the Solar T62. Mechanically the engines are similar in many respects, they both adopt an overhung mechanical layout i.e. there are no bearings in the hot section of the engine. The engines differ in terms of combustion, the Solar uses an annular combustor the Garrett is fitted with a simple side mounted can unit.

A common ground application for the Garrett is a generating set. The engine was built into a U.S.A.F. EMU12/E ground power unit. The ground power unit was used to provide 400 c/s AC power and 28V DC power.
